WHAT IS THE DI.S.C.O.P.M.B. OPEN ONLINE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE (OER)?

An open educational resource focusing on person-centred, diversity-sensitive care for older individuals with migrant backgrounds and their families/informal caregivers is available for health and social care students and professionals in the field. This resource offers increased flexibility and accessibility, catering to the needs of older people with migrant backgrounds. Social and healthcare professionals and students can utilize this digital resource to make progress at their own pace, thereby facilitating improvements in their professional approach.

• Educators in VET system and professors in health care from universities around Europe;
• Students in care field;
• Practitioners working in the health and social care sectors the migration field (cultural mediators, community development workers)

WHAT IS THE GOAL?

The training aims to equip students and professionals with the ability to:

• identify the importance of person-centred, diversity- sensitive care;
• problematize the needs;
• reflect on the care relationships;
• provide a clearer picture on the positive sides of living in a multicultural society
• help health and social care sectors in providing a more suitable health and social care for older people with migrant backgrounds and their families.

WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?

The study material on Open Educational Resources (OER) delves into the fundamental concepts and theoretical foundations of fostering awareness in diversity-sensitive care. 
t is structured in four separate modules for a total of 30-40 hours of training:

  • Module 1 – How to provide diversity-sensitive care
  • Module 2 – Migration background and impact on care
  • Module 3 – How to facilitate access to care
  • Module 4 – Relevant and helpful approaches

The OER combine theoretical background and visual narratives (storytelling method) from older people with migrant backgrounds and their families. Each module consists of material in the form of text, audio and videos, quizzes with the opportunity to work with and reflect on the material and several quizzes where learners can test what they have learned.
